KAT's alleged founder was released on bail

The alleged owner of KickassTorrents, Artem Vaulin, has been released from prison on bail.

According to TorrentFreak, the Ukrainian is going to await the extradition procedure outside of prison, getting to at least spend time with his family.

Artem Vaulin was arrested by Polish law enforcement last summer. He is believed to be the founder of KickassTorrents, one of the torrent sites that were the most popular. The arrest was made following a criminal complaint formulated by the US Government, as Vaulin is accused of copyright infringement, and money laundering.

Vaulin was held in custody for nearly ten months, until last week when Vaulin was released on bail, which had been set at $108,000, according to a Verge report.

The alleged KickassTorrent founder is not allowed to leave Poland and is currently living in a rented apartment in Warsaw alongside his family.

Lawyers working to have the case dismissed

"I'm a businessman. When I start a business I consult lawyers. I was never told that anything I was involved in was against the law. I'm not crazy. If someone came to tell me the United States was angry with something I do, whatever it is, I would stop," Vaulin told The Verge last week, without actually confirming or denying that he was behind KAT.

Vaulin's legal team continues the fight, however. In the United States, the lawyers have filed a motion, which is currently pending. The Illinois District Court is being asked to dismiss the indictment because they claim there's no actual proof of criminal copyright infringement.

This has been a problem time and time again with site administrators or founders being accused of copyright infringement for running a website where content is being spread, both legal and illegal. The founders of The Pirate Bay have also been accused of similar crimes.
